It has taken me this long to write because I still can’t believe that Ron is no longer with us on this earth. No one ever loved me unconditionally like Ron did. Our girls always hoped, and believed that Ron would be the one to do their wedding.

Over the last 14 years, it has been our privilege to host Ron for an annual Bible Conference. Each year our people turned out by the hundreds to hear one of the greatest expositors that ever graced this earth. Our church loved Ron. We loved sharing him with our membership. It was always a highlight of our year to have Ron and Kaye with us – often times when they were hurting beyond words, but they minister life to all of us through the Word.

We will always value and treasure those times of fellowship around the table and the times we were able to have them in our home. I’ll miss Ron and his IBC root beer, angel food cake, deep sigh, and that pregnant pause when he was preaching and you knew you were about to ‘get it.’

No one fed us spiritually like Ron did. We feasted at a banquet table when Ron broke the bread of life.

It was an honor at the funeral service to honor a man who brought so much honor to our Lord. I will always count it a privilege and one of the great blessings of God on my life to have known Ron Dunn. To have called him a hero, a friend, a mentor, counselor and adviser.

It is our prayer and desire that preachers and laymen will continue to carry the torch and keep the legacy of this great man alive. Though dead, he still has much to say to all of us.

Carol Ann and I have been immeasurably blessed over many years through Ron Dunn. I first became aware of him while I was in Del City, OK, and my associate pastor, Jake Self, told me of this young man at MacArthur Boulevard Baptist Church in Irving, TX. I soon became acquainted with Ron and believe him to be one of the truly great communicators of the gospel in our lifetime!

His messages were always unique and gave such a fresh insight into the Word of God that no one could hear without great challenge and blessing to their lives. He was my favorite of the Bible Conference preachers who began to do “Deeper Life” conferences back in the 70s. No one ever did it better!

His book, “Will God Heal Me?” is a classic on the subject of Divine healing. I pray that God will continue to use that book. Every pastor and concerned Christian should read that book.

It was my privilege to be Kim’s pastor for a number of years while I was at First Baptist Church in Euless, TX, and that kept me in touch with the Dunn family. We love Kim and thank God for the time we had with her…and we pray for her regularly as she gains strength and recovers from her accident and surgeries.

Thank you Kaye for your faithfulness and know we rejoice with you in the good report from your oncologist about the cancer. All of the Dunns will continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. Know of our love and concern.

Our Prayer — A Second Touch

September 10, 1971 from church newsletter

OUR PRAYER – A SECOND TOUCH

For several weeks we’ve been praying that God would give us a “second touch,” a new wave of Revival that would make the last year and a half seem “dull and monotonous.” The week before Labor Day we felt “God was up to something.” One family cancelled a Labor Day trip to be in the services Sunday because they felt something was gong to happen. And He didn’t disappoint us! Without any doubt, it was one of the most Spirit-empowered services ever and we Praise Him for those who were saved and those who affirmed the Lordship of Jesus in their lives. AND THE BEST IS YET TO COME! God has only begun to work in our lives.

“Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will finish it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Phil. 1:6

THE DEEPER LIFE VERSUS EVANGELISM

More than one preacher has warned me of emphasizing the “Abundant Life.” It kills, they claim, the people’s incentive for witnessing. They cited several churches as examples. But…

If the DEEPER LIFE doesn’t result in EVANGELISM it isn’t the DEEPER LIFE.

The Deeper Life or the Abundant Life or whatever tag you give it, it is the Spirit-Filled Life and in John 7, Jesus said the Spirit’s fullness will produce ‘RIVERS OF LIVING WATER” that FLOW OUT OF US!

If there is no outflow there is no in filling.

If all you do is soak it up without squeezing it out, you’re soaking up the wrong thing.

The mighty surge of witnessing among our members proves they have “the real thing”. Three of those saved last Sunday morning were witnessed to outside the four walls of this church.

I thank God daily for the many who have discovered the Abundant Life in Jesus and for the overflow that spills and splashes onto others.

Would you believe? One of our members just phoned to tell me about a woman who was saved yesterday through her witness. That’s what I am talking about! That’s squeezing out what you soaked up; that’s the result of the true Abundant Life.
