The Time For Revival Is Now

Our revival begins this Sunday. We will settle for nothing else than REAL REVIVAL. We need nothing more. There’s not a problem in your life or home that genuine revival wouldn’t solve. REVIVAL IS A WORK OF GOD IN HIS PEOPLE THAT OVERFLOWS TO THE WORLD. Revival is God working IN His people that He might work THROUGH them. Revival is GOD WORKING IN, Evangelism is GOD WORKING OUT WHAT HE WORKED IN.

When G. Campbell Morgan and F. B. Meyer went to Wales to observe the great Welsh Revival, they asked a policeman, “Where’s the revival?” The policeman, smiling, said, “IN MY HEART!”

YOU PRAYED, GOD ANSWERED, AND…

170 couples experienced REVIVAL IN THE HOME at the COLORADO COUPLES RETREAT last weekend. I’ve rarely seen anything like what happened as the Spirit of God moved in and took over. The final service lasted so long I missed my plane! Praise the Lord. When the service finally closed, Harold McGlamery, the Secretary of Evangelism for Colorado, could hardly speak. When he finally was able to talk, he said, “I’ll never be the same again.” I think none of us who met God in that place will ever be the same. Praise the Lord for all who were here interceding for that retreat. What a ministry Intercession is!

THIS SATURDAY WE INTERCEDE AROUND THE CLOCK

Beginning at 8am this Saturday till 8am Sunday we will be interceding in the old auditorium. If you were not able to be here lat Wednesday night when we signed up for specific hours, you can still come anytime to pray during this 24 hour prayer chain. THIS IS A CALL TO PRAY AND SEEK THE LORD’S FACE. Satan is mounting a counter attack in an attempt to recapture lost ground. Praise the Lord, we have atomic weapons and he’s using a water pistol!

Our weapons are THE BLOOD OF JESUS (Rev. 12:11), THE WORD OF GOD AND PRAYER (Eph. 6:17,18)

How To Give More Than You Are Able

December 4, 1974 from church newsletter

HOW TO GIVE MORE THAN YOU ARE ABLE

There are two ways to give:

(1) Give out of YOUR resources – this way you’re able to give what YOU are able to give. This was Phillip’s way of giving when Jesus asked him what he would do about the 5,000 hungry churchgoers. Phillip dug into his pockets and evaluated the situation according to HIS resources.

(2) Give out of GOD’S resources – this way you’re able to give what God is able to give. In I Chronicles 29 after David and the people have given such a fantastic offering for the building of the temple, David asks God in verse 14, how they were able to be so generous. He answered his own question when he says, “OF THINE OWN HAVE WE GIVEN THEE.”

Read 2 Corinthians 9 in the Living Bible and you’ll see that Paul says GOD WILL GIVE YOU AS MUCH AS YOU WANT TO GIVE AWAY.

So ask God what He would have you give to the WORLD MISSIONS offering and when the amount seems beyond your resources, Praise the Lord and give it out of God’s resources and He’ll give you as much as you want to give..

Sacrificial Giving

December 4, 1974 from church newsletter

SACRIFICIAL GIVING

It is every MBBC member giving what God wants you to give. What’s it going to take to reach our goal? In two words: SACRIFICIAL GIVING. There is no easy way to do it. Of course, if every member of MBBC would give a little then it would be easy to do it. But let’s face it. Dozens of our families will take no part in this offering. As always, the burden must be borne by the minority to whom Christ really means something.

The goal of our salvation is to make us CHRIST LIKE. And we are like Christ when we are giving. SACRIFICIAL GIVING sums up the nature and work of Christ. To be like Him is to GIVE SACRIFICIALLY of ourselves and our means.

The Glorious Difference

April 7, 1972 from church newsletter

THE GLORIOUS DIFFERENCE

Not what we do for God but what God does for us. What impresses the world is not what we do for God but what God does for us. In Joshua chapter 2 Rahab said that when they heard what God had done for the children of Israel , “our hearts did melt…” And the glorious difference in last Sunday’s closing services of our revival was that God did only what He can do, and He did it in such a way that there was no mistake as to who was doing it. He simply glorified Himself and we rejoice in that.

Sunday’s services were among the greatest that our church has ever witnessed. The Spirit of the Lord fell in an awesome way in the Sunday morning services and returned Sunday night to finish the job.

Our evangelist preached a great message on the Second Coming, and the Lord opened the flood gates during the invitation. After a long invitation in which folks got saved and got right with each other, we baptized (among those baptized were two Hebrew Christians) and after the baptism another invitation was extended, which lasted longer than the first, and more folks got saved and got right. Then we had one of those rare, genuine worship experiences with the Lord. At a time like this all I can think of to say is PRAISE THE LORD.

Time Changes

By Ron Dunn

(This article was published in the MacArthur Blvd. Baptist Church newsletter, April 28, 1972.)

That’s what happened to MacArthur Boulevard Baptist Church two years ago. This Sunday is the SECOND ANNIVERSARY of RE VI VAL in our church. On the last Sunday in April 1970, God moved into our midst with a power that can only be described as EARTHQUAKE POWER, a power that transformed the countenance and composure of MBBC.

SHAKEN WITH AN OVERWHELMING AWARENESS OF GOD’S PRESENCE.  Without a doubt the greatest thing that’s happened is this:  JESUS HAS BECOME REAL.  God is no longer something we pray AT, but a FATHER we pray TO.  The actuality of the INDWELLING SPIRIT has become a REALITY.  MILKSHAKE RELIGION has become an EARTHQUAKE EXPERIENCE.

SHAKEN WITH UNBROKEN UNITY AND HARMONY.  “One heart and one soul.”  The fiery heart of the Holy Spirit melted differences and welded hearts together in a loving fellowship that grows sweeter each time we meet to worship.

SHAKEN WITH SUPERNATURAL POWER FOR LIVING AND WITNESSING.  God has consistently done “exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.”  We’ve seen things happen that two years ago we would have never believed.  People who never witnessed before (never had the course!) found themselves gossiping about Jesus wherever they went.  Sinful habits and attitudes have been conquered through the power of the Holy Spirit.  We’ve come to know that IF IT ISN’T SUPERNATURAL, IT’S SUPERFICIAL.

SHAKEN WITH OVERFLOWING LIBERALITY.  Until Revival came, our church had never met a budget in it’s history!  Then the Holy Spirit revealed a FIXED LAW OF HEAVEN!  WHEN A MAN’S LORDSHIP IS RIGHT HIS STEWARDSHIP WILL BE RIGHT!  The issue isn’t “Will you tithe?” but “Is Jesus Lord?”.  With no budget drives or pledge campaigns of any sort we have met our budget and finished the year with no unpaid bills–and have tripled our giving to WORLD MISSIONS.

SHAKEN WITH A KNOWLEDGE THAT IT IS GOD’S DOING.  What has happened in the past two years, the increased growth in every single area of church life, is not, I repeat, is not, the result of hard work, clever programs, keen administration, intelligent leadership, etc.  It is the result of God’s Spirit breathing new life into these old bones.  And nobody knows this better than this pastor.  God forbid that we should ever glory in any of these things.

“To God be the glory, great things HE hath done.”
